vésperas do golpe de Estado de 1964, o Brasil vivia um processo de importantes
transformações sociais modernizadoras e democratizantes. Durante a curta
existência do governo João Goulart (de setembro de 1961 a março de 1964), um
novo contexto político tinha se aprofundado no país, sendo marcado por
propostas governamentais de cunho popular, as quais acirraram ainda mais a
luta social, política e ideológica já movimentada do período. De um lado uma
crescente mobilização das classes populares (com destaque para a ampliação do
movimento sindical operário e dos trabalhadores do campo), que se confrontava
cada vez mais, de outra parte, com uma organização e ofensiva política dos
setores empresariais e militares alinhados com os interesses do imperialismo
norte-americano. Sabe-se quem levou a melhor na história...</SPAN></P>
<P style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: ; FONT-SIZE: 10pt">Um
dos eixos centrais daquela polarização, ainda que pouco debatido atualmente,
foram as chamadas “Reformas de Base” propostas pelo presidente Jango, as quais
de certa forma sintetizavam algumas das principais reivindicações dos setores
populares e se transformaram num dos estopins utilizados para a direita
civil-militar consumar o seu golpe. Um dos episódios-marco deste contexto foi
o “Comício da Central do Brasil”, realizado por Jango justamente em 13 de
março de 1964, no Rio de Janeiro, durante o qual o presidente anunciou
importantes avanços das Reformas, incluindo a desapropriação de grandes
latifúndios, re-nacionalização de refinarias em favor da Petrobrás, e
importantes medidas para a reforma urbana. O comício viria a acelerar, por
parte das elites civis-militares, a consumação do golpe.</SPAN></P>

causas, de ontem e de hoje, pesquisadores, estudantes e interessados em geral
no debate sobre temas ligados às lutas contra a repressão, em especial à
resistência ao regime civil-militar implantado com o golpe de Estado de 1964.
Os Sábados têm como objetivo central estimular a discussão e o aprofundamento
dos conceitos de Liberdade, Igualdade e Democracia, fundamentais ao Ser Humano
